We are delighted to announce that Ciara Sheils (5th year) was successful in winning the Ulster provincial playoffs of the Mathletes challenge last Saturday 18th April. Ciara had to complete timed online maths challenges, problem solving questions and a teamwork activity in which she performed excellently. Clodagh O’Reilly (5th year) also competed in the provincial playoffs and although she did not take home the first place trophy, her performance throughout the entire Mathletes challenge has been so impressive she has also been invited to take part in the National Final.
Both Ciara and Clodagh are now setting their sights on the title of All Ireland Mathletes Champion, they will compete against 18 other fifth year students in the country where only one will take the top prize. The final takes place on Saturday 2nd May in DCU, the girls maths teacher Mrs Sweeney will be attending and eagerly awaiting the results- a very exciting day for the maths department in Loreto College. We are extremely proud of the girls success in this competition and we wish both of them the very best of luck in the final.
