Loreto Rumbek Day

south-sudanToday the Student Council here in Loreto College Cavan hosted their very first Rumbek Day. This idea was formulated by the council in a bid to raise much needed funds for their sister school in South Sudan- Loreto Rumbek. Although situated in Rumbek, it is part of the Irish Loreto schools jurisdiction. Throughout the years, every member of the student body has been informed about the progress of this school.
‘Rumbek Day’ was run in conjunction with Rumbek Week in Loreto Cavan. Throughout the week, the council were extremely proactive in their endeavours. They read out information about Loreto Rumbek on the PA system each day to ensure that each student understood the importance of contributing to Loreto Rumbek. They also decorated their Student Council board in the Concert Hall passageway with facts, statistics, Rumbek flags and photographs. Without doubt, this was an extremely eye catching display.
Then came the main event today. Each Student was asked to wear a jumper in any of the Rumbek colours- red, blue, yellow, green, black or white. Students also wore ribbons and face paints. Each student contributed €2 to this event. Prizes were given to the most creative member of each year, as well as staff prizes!
To all students and staff who made an enormous effort and those who contributed to the day, congratulations and thank you to one and all.
