Our Irish teacher Ms Doonan, pictured here in her Cavan colours, is ready to play her part in the All Ireland Ladies Intermediate Football Final on Sunday in Croke Park. We all wish her, and all our past pupils on the team, the very best. Here Ms Doonan shares her thoughts on the journey so far..
This Sunday the 29th September 2013 the Cavan Ladies Senior team take on Tipperary in the Intermediate All-Ireland decider in Croke Park. I count myself very lucky to be a part of this panel of Girls or ‘family’ as we like to call it.
Two years ago Cavan lost out marginally to a competitive Westmeath side in a thrilling replay but thankfully they reached the championship decider again, with Tipperary providing the opposition this time.
Throughout the year we the players were trained only to think about the next game. Each game was a hurdle or a ladder; we needed to raise that bar a little bit further for every game. We never reflected on the thoughts of winning an All-Ireland which was essentially our final hurdle.
These traits come with what you learn in your everyday life, what your parents, influencers and educators try to instil in you.
“You’re only as good as your last performance; you need to give 110% the next time”
This school has numerous past pupils on the Cavan Senior panel, including Roisin O’Keefe, Rosie Crowe, Sinead Greene, Caitriona Smith, Erin Galligan, Joanne Moore, Grainne Smith, Aoibheann Kiernan and Racheal Jordan.
Everyone is flying fit, our heads are in the right place and the hunger from two years ago is definitely visible, the girls want to win it now more than ever!
