Today, May 13th, the Student Council in Loreto College Cavan presented two local charities with money we raised throughout the year. We presented €1000 to Ms Una Donnelly of the Baby Unit in Cavan General Hospital and €1000 to Ms Carol Beattie, Chairperson of the Alzheimer’s Society in Cavan. We will also be forwarding a cheque for €1000 to Barretstown, an organisation which offers life-enhancing programmes for seriously ill children, and support for parents and carers. This is the second year that Loreto Cavan has donated to Barretstown, a charity with which we have been closely linked, as a former student attended Barretstown, an experience which contributed greatly to her recovery from cancer. Formerly, the Student Council have raised money for various other charities in the locality, and this year due to fundraising within the school, we are thrilled to be able to do so again. The Student Council, which is composed of 2 students from each year, under the guidance of our liaison teacher Mrs Anne Cassidy, hosted various events over the year to raise these vital funds. We hosted a non- uniform day, a Christmas card competition (with cards being available for purchase in local shops and within the school) and a Cake Sale. In promoting these fundraising events within the school, the Student Council also hosted a Rap n’ Math competition, a mobile phone appeal for Down Syndrome, an anti-litter week and Mental Health Week.
