This year 5th year students were offered the chance to part take in fundraising to go on a pilgrimage to Lourdes from our Dioscese of Kilmore. 20 girls would be chosen to go alongside Fr Kevin and assisted pilgrims from the Kilmore diocese. In the beginning over 70 5th years applied. The first fundraising event was a 5k walk in Ballyconnell in November. Students were given cards and collected money in aid of the walk. The walk was very successful and raised over €5,000. In December, the students bag-packed in Dunnes Stores in Cavan town and Centra in Ballyconnell, as well as Carolling in the Town Square in Cavan. Also in December the school accommodated a cookery demonstration in the gym with Brian McDermott a chef from Donegal who gave tips on cooking Christmas dinners. A craft fair was also held that evening on the Junior Mall and stalls ranging from ice-cream to hand-made crafts were available.

The number of students still involved diminished as the months went by. In February the remaining students were asked to write a letter explaining why they wished to go to Lourdes. These letters were followed by a letter from a Priest or Parish representative proving that they took part in different activities in their parish. In March the remaining 44 students were given a set date for an interview which took place in the Pastoral Centre in Cavan. The interviewers were a man and a woman who visit Lourdes each year and were unknown to all 44 students. They asked 6 questions based around Lourdes, why you would like to go and what you would bring to Lourdes as a person.  In the end 20 students were chosen. The decision was hard but after all the suspense the 20 students were announced. These 20 students will go to Lourdes alongside Fr Kevin and the assisted pilgrims at the end of May.
