Student Council report:
Here in Loreto Cavan we were extremely busy on Monday February 25th as we hosted a Cake Sale in aid of local charities St. Christopher’s Hospice and the Oncology Department in Cavan General Hospital.
Before the Cake Sale, the council appealed to all students from First year to Sixth year to bake for this fundraising event so that the goods could be sold to the students, teachers and staff at lunchtime. All the food, kindly supplied by the students, was brought to the home economics department so that the student council could separate and package the food. The staff came to the Home Economics rooms at 11:00 to purchase goods and then at 12:25 the student council set up the gym to transform it into a delightful Bake Sale! The main event began at 12:50 when the first year students got the first pick of the cakes, buns, chocolate squares, cupcakes, cookies and other delicious home cooking. At 1:00, we opened the gym to all the students and the cake sale became the great success that it has been in previous years!
The Student Council are delighted to announce that the sum of €1212.81 was raised, along with a donation of €500 from The Bank of Ireland. We are very grateful to the Bank of Ireland for this generous donation and we have no doubt that it will be put to good use. This made the total sum €1712.81. All monies will be donated to our local charities.
A huge thank you to the Home Economics Department and the PE department for their support without which the cake sale could not have happened. Also to the students who baked, students who supported the cake sale and staff, thank you to one and all.
