Laura O’Conor (Head Prefect) and Emma Louise Brady (Deputy Head Prefect) write on behalf of the Student Council:
Last Friday, 18th January members from the Student Council decorated the Student Council notice board on the theme of Mary Ward Week (21st- 25th January). Lisa Smith (TY Athena) and Leanne Sheridan (St Hannah) came up with a great idea of making the school crest out of paper to display on the board. We also made a timeline of Mary Ward’s interesting life so that each student in our school would understand the difficulty she endured in forming her own Religious Order and getting education for girls. We all now understand that she walked throughout the world going to Rome several times in order to achieve her aims. On the board, we also displayed quotes that she said throughout her life, these include; ‘women in time to come will do much‘, ‘Love and speak the truth at all times‘, ‘Show yourself at all times glad and joyful, for God loves a cheerful giver.‘ and ‘Cherish God’s vocation in you. Let it be constant, efficacious, and loving.’ We hope that these quotes will help the students in our school to fully appreciate Mary Ward’s wisdom and dedication to her cause. Also displayed on our board are pictures of Mary Ward throughout her life, featuring pictures of her Voyage to St. Omer and of her as a novice sister.
She is an inspiration to ‘Loreto Girls’ throughout the world and here in Loreto College Cavan, we wanted to celebrate her life to the best of our ability and follow her example to ‘do much’.
”Do not begin by violently attacking what is bad or amiss in anyone, but by showing the beauty and desirableness of the opposite virtue lead them to wish for it.” Mary Ward.
