On the 1st of November we both represented our school in the “Young Chef of County Cavan” section of the Taste Of Cavan fair in the Hotel Kilmore. We had to cook a dish, sourcing all our ingredients in Cavan. The total cost of the dish had to be no more than €15 for two people. We decided on colcanon and homemade sausages with apple sauce for the competition as we could buy all the ingredients needed in Cavan. We practiced the dish in school a few weeks before. On the day the judging panel was made up of TV 3’s Celebrity Chef Catherine Leyden, Liz Wall ICA President and Marie Duffy from An Bord Bia. Ella McSweeney RTE Radio and TV Presenter from Ear to the Ground was the MC for the afternoon.
Even though we didn’t win, it was good fun and we went home with a certificate….and there was also a load of free food there!
