Ciara Deering (TY) reports:
Five students (Ciara Deering, Megan Brady, Aishling Brouke, Lauren Freehill and Orlagh Daly) from our school where invited to take part in the National Conference of the European Youth Parliament in Dublin on the 2th – 4th of March 2012 after taking part at the regional finals in Monaghan of EYP.
We travelled to Dublin on Friday and arrived at the Abraham House Hostel where we were staying for the weekend. The Conference venue was St. Michael’s College Ailesbury Road, Dublin 4. We were each assigned to a committee before we arrived. They ranged from ITRE industry, technology and research about the post Fukushima World, SEDE security and defense about the defense budgets, hard and soft power, crisis and threats; to DROI on human rights about stereotypes, protecting heritage and community’s like the gypsies; and IMCO internal market and consumer protection about the Facebook generation!
We stayed in the hostel in rooms with our committees. Each committee discussed their topic on the Saturday and debated them all at a conference on Sunday. There was lots of fun activities over the weekend, games to get to know one another and also a disco and karaoke on the Saturday night.
We all have a wonderful time and a brilliant experience of debating and public speaking, expressing our opinions, seeing thing from others point of view, and just getting to know other people there. It is something we will always remember from the people, the energy, and debating and overall fun of EYP.
