This week we have been celebrating Mary Ward week. Mary Ward founded the Sisters of Loreto in 1609. At the age of 15 she felt the calling to religious life. She entered a monastery of Poor Clares at Saint-Omer in northern France, then in Spanish Flanders as a lay sister in 1606 and the following year she founded a new monastery of the Order for English women. This week we have had different prayers being read out throughout the week. Mary Ward believed that women were equal in intellect and should be educated accordingly. Today the order she inspired is all around the world. This week we the TY class will be holding a carnival for the first years to help raise money for a Loreto school in Rumbek, South Sudan.
